Physical Education for 5th/6th Grade            Week of 3/31 through April 3

Thursday

 (10 minutes ) Warm ups:

Exercises similar to what we do in class: V stretch, arm stretches, neck rolls (in frontal plane only), jumping jacks, squats, toe raisers, etc,

 

 (15 minutes) Light to medium cardio, the idea here is to BREAK A SWEAT as we prepare to start practicing the different test components of the Presidential Physical Fitness test. Ways to elevate heart rate and respiration: jog in place or jog outdoors, jump rope, *jump rope with arm workout aerobics, step aerobics, bike (stationary or outdoor) kickboxing, elliptical, treadmill, dance to your favorite tunes, power walking, squat jumps, etc.

 

 (20 minutes) Presidential Physical Fitness test component:   V SIT REACH TEST. (this is for practice only) Sit on floor with legs extended out front, legs in V position. With tape mark a straight line 2 ft long on the floor as a the baseline, then mark a straight measurement line perpendicular to this baseline marked in ½ in increments. Where the base line and the perpendicular line meet is point zero. Place heels behind the baseline 8-12 inches apart. Extend forward as far as you can with hands clasped, palms down and stretch forward staying on measurement line. Perform 3 tries and get a recording on the 4th try.

Tuesday

Activities:
