Mr. Messer’s Lesson plans for the week of 3/21 through Holy Week

7/8 English

 

3/21   Students will read "It's Complicated" in class and respond to questions. Students should be reading at home on their outside reading book and bringing it to school on Tuesday/Thursday to make progress on their reading.

 

3/23   Students will read "Outsmart your Smartphone" in class and respond to questions. Students should be reading at home on their outside reading book and bringing it to school on Tuesday/Thursday to make progress on their reading.

 

 

3/28   Students will begin working on an argumentative essay where they attempt to support the ideas expressed in "It's Complicated" or "Outsmart your Smartphone". Students will develop a thesis statement, provide evidence from the articles as support, include the refutation of a counterargument, and have a concluding statement. Students should be reading at home on their outside reading book and bringing it to school on Tuesday/Thursday to make progress on their reading.


3/30 Students will finish and submit their argumentative essay. Students should be reading at home on their outside reading book and bringing it to school on Tuesday/Thursday to make progress on their reading.

 

 

 No Homework over Holy Week--Enjoy your break and come back ready to focus for the last 5 weeks.

 

 

9-12 English

 

 3/22      Students will have this class period to work on their argumentative essay which should incorporate the 4 pillars of argument (as discussed in class) in relation to an argumentative thesis statement dealing with A Tale of Two Cities or the setting of the story.

 

3/24      Students will have this class period to work on their argumentative essay which should incorporate the 4 pillars of argument (as discussed in class) in relation to an argumentative thesis statement dealing with A Tale of Two Cities or the setting of the story.

 

3/29      Students should bring the rough draft of their argumentative essay with them to class. Students will share their essays and peer edit in an effort to strengthen their argument. 


3/31 Students will turn in the final draft of the argumentative essay.

 

 

 No Homework over Holy Week--Enjoy your break and come back ready to focus for the last 5 weeks.
